TGNP was formed in 1993 as an activist non-profit organization, and in 2012 was registered as TGNP Mtandao Limited. TGNP emerged through a collective process of critical reflection by leaders of key women’s and gender organisations about the situation of women who are the most exploited and oppressed people within the exploited laboring classes. This process led to the struggle against patriarchy and neo-liberalism. TGNP's Ideology and philosophy is built on Transformative feminism, which is a struggle that aims to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women and other marginalised groups, whether due to class, sex, gender, age, ethnicity, disability, geographical and nationality locations; and urban/rural differences. Guided by transformative feminist theory and animation philosophy, the organization has succeeded to grow in terms of programs, membership, staff and made its mark as a vibrant and dynamic actor in civil society and a leader among the many women’s/gender/feminist organizations that have emerged during the last 20 year period. TGNP has constantly stood firm on her core values and principles on social justice, integrity, accountability, human and women’s rights and contentious discourse.
