TRAINING AND CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME (TCB)

The TGNP Training and capacity Building Programme (TCB) is charged with the tasks of enhancing gender skills and participatory approaches of key TGNP stakeholders and the formation of active links with relevant organizations and individuals at different levels, especially at local levels with a particular focus on capacity building on gender, advocacy, participatory and animation methodologies.

Gender training and capacity development services have been part and parcel of TGNP,s work since  1993 . So far TGNP has trained 3415 grassroots and intermediary level actors; 2027 members and staff of local  activist organizations; 3029 strategic actors in development  agencies and government  institutions ; and 359 member of regional and international organizations.

With the growing awareness of gender as critical variable in social and economic  development  policies and programming; there is a growing demand for gender analysis capacities  and knowledge  of its  application in various  aspects of the development process. This is a pointer to the work done so far by the movement. At the same time it poses a challenge to its capacity to consolidated its gain  by making  a quality and systematic  response to this demand . In response to the above challenge , TGNP  intends to graduate its capacity development and training programme into a full fledged Gender Training Institute.

Training Objective and approach.

Based on the philosophy and approach informing its work, TGNP believes that any gender training worth its name should prove to be a useful tool for critical thinking and organized  action for social transformation. This is the premise  upon which TGNP Gender and Development  Courses are designed. Training methodologies and techniques employed  are those that enhance individual and shared reflection and analysis, leading to empowerment and transformation  at individual level as basis for shared understanding of social barriers to equal and equitable development; and building  of a collective  consciousness and enhanced conceptual  skills and capacities to:

  • Interrogating own ideological position within the empowerment  framework  and unleashing own empowerment potentials.

  • Challenge patriarchal gender relations and other  intersecting factors of social divide  such as class , caste, race, north- South, urban, rural, age, ethnicity and others.

  • Questioning the existing development paradigms in terms of their ability to foster  accelerated and equitable development  and social justice within a sustainable  ecological, social and institutional framework.

  • Critically appraise and make a positive contribution  to the actions  of gender /Women's/ feminist  movement and other progressive social movements

  • Imbibing  animation philosophy and methodologies  and strengthening  skills in the application  of participatory techniques.

  • Linking the women's movements  and other social movements with gender related development activities;

  • Working with individuals , both women and men, who are interested in social transformation at personal and structural level;

  • Demystifying conventional  knowledge and practice.
