TGNP Mission

The Tanzania Gender Networking Programme (TGNP) is “committed to contributing to the social transformation leading to the creation of a vibrant Tanzania society. It seeks to promote gender equality and social equity through the empowerment of women and other marginalized sectors of the community”. The organization strives to enhance the mainstreaming of gender at all levels of society from grassroots communities to the highest levels of national policy making and legislation.

For effective and systematic realization of its vision and mission the organization has over the last fourteen years, blocked its work into five programmes areas namely:

  • Activism, Lobbying and Coalition Building (ALC);
  • Analysis, Research & Publications (ARP);
  • Feminist Information Centre (FIC);
  • Gender Training Institute (GTI);
  • Programme Support Management (PSM);

Core Values & Philosophy

TGNP’s identity is premised on the transformative feminist conceptual framework and ideology that recognize the interface between the oppression of girls/women and other social groups within the context of their location as African people exploited and oppressed by class, race/ethnicity, corporate globalization, age, rural-urban divide, education and other exclusionist social relations.  It thus affirms the following core values:

o   Equity, equality and social justice

o   Feminist leadership guided by animation philosophy, participatory organizing and decision making

o   Recognition of the rights of all people in all their diversity and right to contestation

o   Transparency, collective and individual accountability and integrity

o   Commitment to equality, team spirit, solidarity, and professionalism

o   Nurturing and caring for self-fulfillment and growth

o   Sensitivity to the fact that the personal is political and public, and vice versa.

Organizational Structure

The governing body of TGNP is its Annual General Meeting where members make decisions to guide the organization. On a quarterly basis, TGNP's Board meets to monitor and advise on the programmes progress in meeting its objectives. The TGNP Secretariat is composed of an Executive Director who guides the Programme Officers in their implementation of TGNP's activities. POs are assisted by Programme Committees, which are composed of members, relevant specialists’, representatives from partner organizations and other strategic actors.
