TGNP Gender Training Institute has conducted the fourth Training of
Trainers course on Gender and
Development at Mabibo Gender Resource Centre Dar es
Salaam, Tanzania. The course started on 7th April
and ended on
18th April, 2007.
The course was designed to equip participants with
basic conceptual clarity on the theoretical issues
relating to gender and development. It was also aimed at
enhancing skills in gender analysis , animation and
participatory facilitation.
Course Objectives
-
To contribute to the expansion of transformed
gender facilitators who are able to lead and
facilitate gender training that challenge oppressive
social structures and gender inequalities.

To Develop and strengthen the skills and
capacities of trainers and facilitators on gender
animation philosophy; and participatory facilitation
methods and techniques
-
To enable trainers to internalize and articulate
common gender analytical frameworks and apply them
to development policies , programmes and
transformation processes.

To review various participatory
training/ facilitation methods and techniques on
their sustainability and possible adaptation
depending on context.

To design gender training events and
simulations of training sessions.
Course outputs
At the end of the course the trainers will be able to:

Design and implement training programmes and
workshops in gender and development for
different groups .

Select adopt and use a variety of facilitation
techniques and tools which are conducive for
interactive and experiential learning in gender and
development training events for female, male and
mixed groups
-
Recognize and be conscious of uneasiness ,
resistance and fear that is sometimes
exhibited by gender and development training
participants ; and develop communicative
techniques to address them in transformative and
empowering way
The course participants were from diverse background and
represent various sectors ranging from Government,
higher learning institutions, faith based organizations,
media houses and private sectors.
The course was officially opened by the Head of Training
Department Institute of Adult Education Ms.
Consolata Mongella and closed by Prof. Bertha Koda of
the Institute of Development Studies University of Dar
es Salaam
