COURSE SUMMARY:
The 6th Foundation Course on Gender and
development has been developed as part of TGNP’s effort
of responding to the gender capacity needs of various
development actors. The Course lays the basis upon which
other specialized gender training courses will be built
and is designed to equip participants with basic
conceptual clarity on theoretical issues related to
gender and development.
Using an array of gender conceptual frameworks and
analytical tools, the Foundation Course exposes
participants to the pervasive effects of structural
gender inequalities existing within our socio-economic
and political context. It enables the participants to
see the linkages between gender inequalities
(interfacing with other forms of inequalities) and
incongruent social development and acceleration of
social and economic ills such as impoverishment,
deteriorating social provisioning, environmental
degradation, limited democratic participation and gross
human rights abuse (especially those of women, children
and poor people) at various levels of society. |
|
AT THE END OF THE COURSE PARTICIPANTS WILL BE:
·Become
familiar with key gender concepts and their relation to
various development issues
·Adopted a
conceptual framework for analysis on causality of
women's subordination and gender inequalities around
them.
·Related
different gender constructs and identify gender gaps
that exist in different institutions
· developed
a critical understanding of gender issues in different
contexts; and their underlying/ root causes.
· become
informed on the international, regional and nation
conventions and instruments put in place for the
promotion of gender equality and equity; and the
protection of human rights for all.
· become
motivated to take action individually and collectively
to transform gender relations at personal, community,
and institutional levels
· become
motivated to continue sharpening their skills for gender
analysis and action through continuous learning,
